Oh so close to toast

I'm happy and slightly aggrivated. In my first "test" of the year in Techniques of Research (= loads of fun), I made a whopping 98. I know one person set the curve at zero (because they made 100%). I only missed one question. Dang it and woohoo at the same time. Well, I guess this was the best thing for me. If I made the 100, my fellow classmates would have given me the evil eye and general hatred. I don't exactly like that.

Okay, so I sub out at Vanoss sometimes. So here I am sitting at the teachers desk catching up on my Sooners Illustrated when all of a sudden this girl starts singing the "Yeah! Toast!" song. Now, I first heard of the song from the wondering bohemian herself thinking that it was only known to the Michigan area. Apparently I was wrong. And here I was thinking that kids didn't have enough culture...

And speaking of being a sub (eat fresh!), the other day I was subbing for a science teacher. I was about to call roll and so I wanted everybody to be quiet. So I said to them, "Alright! Everyone shut your pie-hole!" The kids were somewhat caught off guard by my command. I suppose not many of the other teachers say this. Oh well. But they did shut their yappper. Oh and one girl never calls me Mr. Qualls. She ALWAYS calls me Mr. Sub. New knickname? #$%@ no! I guess this means some of the kids are taking a liking to me. Isn't that good? Sure. You always see those t.v. shows where students absolutely abuse the substitute teacher. Not in this case. These students are for the most part pretty good. I'm sure there will be more "sub" stories to come. Stay tuned (I'm sure you are overjoyed about that).

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

I wonder what a good nickname for me would be....

I remember

When it rains, it pours. Has anyone ever seen this phenomina? Most everybody knows of the tragedy that occured last weekend. In case you don't know, a girl I knew during my days as a youth intern at First United Methodist Church was murdered by a coward. This guy abducted her after school in the parking lot. He shot and killed her just a few hours later. Then turned the gun on himself and ended his own life.

Today was the funeral for the young lady. It was a very nice service. So many people there. And it was the first time I cried about the whole thing. It didn't hit me until I was walking out through the church. We were allowed to say something to her as we passed by her body. I approached the casket and broke down. All I could muster as I walked by was, "I'll see you again soon." I couldn't look at anybody. I just couldn't. Right before I walked out the door I felt a hand touch my shoulder. It was Rev. Warren (pastor of the F.U.M.C). For some reason, it gave me some peace. To know that somebody was there. Human touch is so powerful sometimes.

Caitlin was such a wonderful girl. No, I didn't know her extremely well, but the times that I did interact with her and the times that I spent with her during youth group were all good times. Her smile was infectious and her laugh made everyone feel better. She was such a godly woman. Stories of her testimony inspires me to let my light shine, as she did so well. I hope I leave a legacy such as she did.

In my previous post, I mention a set of verses that really spoke to me. The pastor giving the message today, gave those same set of verses. It was amazing. It touched me greatly.

But now I can't get the image of her out of my head. I think about her quite a bit. I'm not exactly sure why. Were we best friends? No. But this whole thing still affects me. To see somebody innocent pay the price for somebody else's crime is terrible. But doesn't that sound familiar? Jesus paid our debt. We sinned and yet someone perfect stepped in and paid the price for our mistakes. I still can't believe someone would do that for me.

The other day I found out that another friend of mine also passed away. Those of you in Ada may have seen it on the front page of the Ada Evening News. Dusty Abbott was riding a motorcycle and crashed near the college. He went to the same church as I for several years. So did his parents. I knew them pretty well. They are all wonderful people. I couldn't imagine what they are going through. So please pray for peace during this tragic time.

I remember. I remember your life, Caitlin. I remember. I remember your life, Dusty. I'll see you both again, soon.

Isaih 40:28-31, 41:10-13

After the events of yesterday and today, I was reminded of these verses. They give me a sense of hope. Continue to pray for this community and the family, friends, and loved ones of Ms. Wooten as well as the loved ones of Mr. Savage.

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

10 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
11 "All who rage against you
will surely be ashamed and disgraced;
those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish.
12 Though you search for your enemies,
you will not find them.
Those who wage war against you
will be as nothing at all.
13 For I am the LORD, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.

Please pray

ADA, Okla. -- An Amber Alert has been issued for an Ada High School student who was apparently abducted this afternoon by 47-year-old Jerry Savage. Caitlin Wooten was believed to have been abducted by her mother’s ex-boyfriend.
Two weeks ago the suspect, Jerry Savage, had also tried to abduct the mother prompting her to issue a protective order against the man on August 30th.
Savage was last seen in a late model Dodge extended cab. More details will be available in our future broadcasts.

This young lady was part of the youth group at the church where I did my internship. I know this girl and it still seems weird that something like this could happen. Please pray for her and her family because this is a serious situation.

Bags of ice

Today, Beach asked me to go get some ice for the Coffee House thing. So, I was like, okay. Anyway, I go with Matt H. to Burger King. On the way, I see Beach in the truck with Pip at an intersection. I thought to myself, "Why did he ask me to get bags of ice when he is out running around? Couldn't he have gotten the ice?????!!!!!!!!!". So, thanks, Beach for the unnecessary trip to Love's. It's all good, though.

I just got word that Bryan lost his liscense plate off his scooter! HAHA! Way to go Bryan! Only you. Only you.

Man, I have nothing else interesting to say. So....... I'll go on a tangent of incoherent thoughts.

Football is awesome. Vanilla is much better than what people give it credit for. Ticket Nazi's are not cool. How did the American civilization exist before cell phones? What's the deal with airplane peanuts? Toilet water in the northern hemisphere spins counter-clockwise and clockwise in the southern hemisphere. What if you were on the equater and flushed your toilet? Which way would it spin? Would it suck? Why don't we use Army time? Carbohydrates suck. Bowtie pasta rocks my pants off..... literally. Since when did Action-figure Jesus start voting? I like peanut butter.

Okay, that's about it.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

Testamistic

Took my first test today. If I do well on it, then it proves you can procrastinate and still kick tail (or input an explicitive with three letters here) in class. Get a load of the name of the class that I took the test in: Techniques of Research. Now you can't tell me that you wouldn't have a ball in there. Actually, I wouldn't mind having a "ball" in there. Causing general disruption would give me something to do.

Relationship Forecast:
Still a high pressure system over Kent which reduces any chance of precipi-girlfriend. Still, there's always a snowballs chance in hell.

Me, Jonathon, and Pip standing in front of Ed Sullivan Theatre (CBS) with NBC merchandise sacks.

About to head off to the retreat thing for methodist people. Maybe I can spread some Baptist doctrine up in there, up in there. I wonder who's bringing a covered dish......?

Just got done playing tennis with Matt H. I've been resting for about 10 minutes before Pip called asking if we could play some. It's good exercise. But I'm freakin tired.

So, move over Andre. Your time is over. Kent hath cometh!!

Chaos

Words (I think) from a Mute Math song. Describes everything about me.

Complications my claim to fame
and I can’t believe there’s another
Constantly just another
Can’t avoid what I can’t control
And I’m losing ground, still I can’t stand down
And I know, yeah I know

I know you stay true when my world is false
everything around is breaking down to chaos
I always see you when my sight is lost
everything around is breaking down to chaos.

It’s hard to trust anyone again
After all the letdowns I’ve been through
Haunted by what I’ve been through
Best to try while I still can't breathe
and I’m screaming out
give me hope somehow
And I know, yeah I know

Cry Out To Jesus: A song for those in need

Cry Out To Jesus
Words by Mac Powell / Music by Third Day

To everyone who's lost someone they love
Long before it was their time
You feel like the days you had were not enough
when you said goodbye

And to all of the people with burdens and pains
Keeping you back from your life
You believe that there's nothing and there is no one
Who can make it right

There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
Love for the broken heart
There is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He'll meet you wherever you are
Cry out to Jesus, Cry out to Jesus

For the marriage that's struggling just to hang on
They lost all of their faith in love
They've done all they can to make it right again
Still it's not enough

For the ones who can't break the addictions and chains
You try to give up but you come back again
Just remember that you're not alone in your shame
And your suffering

When your lonely
And it feels like the whole world is falling on you
You just reach out, you just cry out to Jesus
Cry to Jesus

To the widow who struggles with being alone
Wiping the tears from her eyes
For the children around the world without a home
Say a prayer tonight

Ed, did you go to Australia recently?

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australian police responding to a break-in at a furniture store were surprised to discover the suspected culprit asleep at the scene after the man's snoring gave away his hiding place.

Police arrived at the furniture store in the central Australian town of Alice Springs on Saturday night to find the glass front door smashed.

"On walking through the store police thought the offender had fled until they heard snoring coming from the carpet racks. When they climbed up they found the 25-year-old asleep on the carpet underlay and snoring," police said in a statement.

The man was arrested and charged with unlawfully entering a building with intent to commit a crime and stealing.

The sunburn totally not worth it

What the F*&@ happened?! How bad does OU suck? They freakin' lost to TCU 17-10 today. It was the absolute worst "performance" I've ever witnessed by an OU team under Stoops. I was so embarrassed during and after the game. This may be a really REALLY long season of football. I may have a few broken knuckles towards mid-season. God help me!

Oh, and totally got a sunburn on the face, arms, and neck. Ouch.

And on the Third Day...

November 1. The day that will live in... Well......... Who knows? Anyway, Third Day announced that they will have a new CD coming out on guess............ November 1. The CD will be called Wherever You Are. Can't wait.

Well, another sleepless night... kinda. I haven't eaten much in the past few days. It's weird. I know I should be hungry but for some reason I don't feel the need to eat. I don't know what's up. There have been a few days where it would be 10:00 o'clock at night and I realize, "Hey, all I've had to eat today where 5 Pringles.... The cheesy kind." Weird. But I think I've figured out a good way to lose weight: BE STRESSED OUT. I think that is my problem. I'm dealing with a little bit-o-everything. Nothing major.... Just growing up junk that I have to live with. Oh, and nothing against Pringles. Pringles are frawsom (mix of freakin' and awesome).

Earlier, Purd and I went to Holdenville to watch a high school football game. I wanted to go because, hey, it's football. And Purd offered to pay for my gas and ticket if I drove. So I was all up ons. You know, I've been everywhere but-holdenville. Say it again... BUTT HOLDENville. Shut up. It's funny to me.

And speaking of football, Oklahoma University opens the season against Texas Christian U. This Saturday in Norman, OK. And, of course, I will be in attendance. Like always. Lot of new faces out there. Hopefully we will be decent. Paul Thompson is The Man. So is A.D. We should be alright. My prediction: OU-41, TCU- 14. Go Sooners!

Today was the first day of my professional career: I substitute teached. I R successful now. More on that on another post. I know you will be waiting in anticipation. Yeah...... uh huh.

That's all.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.
