Just like old times...

It's always great to catch up on old times with people you used to hang out with. In this case, it's my cousin, who, for the past two years, has been teaching in Poland.

We aren't cousins by blood. My aunt and her dad remarried when I was still in late grade school (I can't remember exactly). We didn't live in the same town, but she would usually stay with her dad on the weekends. So, we would hang out when she came up. Church activities and "going to town" would be the among the basic things we would do. We would listen to the same music, make fun of the same people, and go to the same places like Mexico and Falls Creek. We were like best friends.

Then she graduated high school. She was a couple of years ahead of me so while she was in college, I was still in high school. She went to Southeastern. And later I went to East Central. We should be enemies, but no, we were still like best friends. But even when she was in college she would still visit. But as time went on the visits became less and less. Our paths wouldn't intersect quite as often. We grew apart.

Then she got a teaching job in Texas for one year. So, I barely got to see her. Then she decided to teach in Poland for the next two years with visits later in the summer. But whenever we spent time with each other it was never the same.

Last night I got to see her for the first time in about a year. She called me to ask me when we are going to hang out again. So, I told her of my plans to visit H2O Church because they were starting their Saturday night service featuring the music of Souled Out. I asked her if she wanted to accompany me and she politely accepted. We chatted a bit on the way up to the church, which was nice. We get to the church and have a great time. Great music, free water,... awesome. I think she liked it as well. Anyway, we then went to Mazzio's (pizza place) for some grub. That was when I felt like we "reconnected" for the first time in years. We shared stories of past times with one of my friends who came along with us. It was great to finally be able to laugh and reminisce like old times.

I know it will never be exactly like old times, but isn't it nice to reconnect? She will more than likely be heading back across the seas fairly soon. I miss her like crazy considering all the good times we've had and could have had if she would have stayed here. She was my best friend. One of those people I could tell anything to. We would share our deepest thoughts with each other and told the other what we thought about it without trying to tell them what they wanted to hear. We've cried to each other in both good and bad times. We've shared secrets we wouldn't tell anybody else. I've missed that. I don't have anything like that right now. So, not only do I miss having that kind of relationship with somebody, I miss her as well.

So, I guess one thing I would want to learn from all of this is to never take your friends for granted. We are told to love our neighbors. It doesn't hurt to let them know that.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

Rent

Well, the first month's rent is paid. And I found a 4th roomie. That means more cars parked next to the house and less rent per month.

Going to see a play tonight. Should be good. I always like a good comedy. I'm basically going because I have a friend who is in the play. I haven't seen her in anything yet so I'm really looking forward to it. She is very talented at everything. She amazes me.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

Here it comes...

A beautiful collision.

Quick recap, then we'll Tarentino this.

  • I went bowling... for people.
  • Looked for some houses.
  • Got some money.
  • Updated my blog.
  • The Future... hasn't happened yet.

I went bowling last night with a few friends. I may have made one less friend, however. You see, whenever you pretend to throw a bowling ball at your friends, MAKE SURE that you actually don't throw the ball at them. That was a mistake that I made. I was just being dumb acting like I was bowling for people.... but the thing that I forgot was that you have to keep holding onto the ball. The ball flew right into this guy's face. I felt so bad. But I still bowled lights out... so it wasn't a total loss.

And for those keeping score, I bowled as follows: 150,155, 169. Go me.

I also spent a few hours driving around looking for houses to rent. I found very few. A couple of houses I liked. In fact, I'm going out to the house tomorrow to meet the landlord to discuss housing options. The house looks very promising. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Remember me talking about playing the drums all week at Falls Creek? Well, I got something unexpected from that trip. I got money from doing that. I never expected any money. I was just doing it because it was fun. And it was. But the money thing was cool too... cause I like money... and having money allows you to get things.... which is nice.

Now I'm updating the blog.... duh.

We'll see what the future has in store.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

House Pirate

I'm in the market... as it were...

Yes, I'm housing "shopping". Not buying, but renting. So, if anybody knows any nice houses for rent, let me know. Looking for a place is already a pain in the butt. Most of the good houses are already gone before I even know about it. Plus, I really want to find a place before all the college kids snatch up all the good ones. And the sooner I find a place, the sooner I can be all situated before I start my job.

I have a roomate lined out (and possibly looking for another roomie). So, I'm looking for a 3 bed + 2 bath. I basically just started looking so I may have a long way to go.

So, it rained today. And the temperature dropped. Now it's only as hot as the sun. Thank God for those solar cold fronts.

Falls Creek again tonight.... It's the last night. I enjoyed it though.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

King of Queens

I promised big news and I will give you big news. So... Here goes. I, Kent, bought a new shirt at a discount price. It's a great shirt, too. You would be proud.

No, no, no. That's not the big news. I am the newest teacher at ****** High School. I received a phone call on my way to OKC from the Supt. of the offer and I accepted. So, not only am I a teacher, I am also a basketball coach.... a GIRLS basketball coach. Now, I would never have imagined that I would ever be a girls basketball coach. It's funny how God works sometimes. A year ago I wasn't even sure if I wanted to be a coach. Heck, two weeks ago I didn't think it was going to happen. Little did I know...

Math and coaching... deadly combonation. We'll see what happens.

I ate at a place called City Bites today. The food was awesome, but the interesting part of the experience was in the bathroom. You see, the restroom from the outside is covered in mirrors. It appears no different than any other mirror. However, inside the bathroom is a whole new experience... for the most part. You, as you are urinating, can look THROUGH the walls to everyone in the restaraunt. You can see them through the two-way glass. It is a weird experience exposing yourself when at the same time you are not exposing yourself. People are seated right next to the bathroom, too. So, as you are taking care of business, there is somebody less than a foot away from you... eating. You are peeing as people look in your direction. It's very scary, yet liberating.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

Leaving on a jet plane

Well, more like a church van...

I return to Falls Creek tonight and every night this week. Not as a camper. Not as a worker. But as a drummer! In other words, I'll be the only non-musician in the van.

Doug Matlock, somebody else.... and I will be doing the night worship at a cabin for their worship service. I have been looking forward to it for over a month now. I always like the opportunity to play the drums, especially when Doug is playing. Him playing the guitar makes me sound better.... besides... it's all about me anyways. Totally kidding there.

I have been playing for about 9 or 10 years now. No, I don't practice everyday. So, I'm nothing close to being an expert or anything, but I wouldn't consider myself horrible at it. My uncle, who is an amazing musician, first encouraged me to learn. He had a simple drum set and taught me a basic drum beat. So, I sat down and tried to get that basic beat down. Eventually, I learned it. The toughest thing was learning how to do three things at the same time. Once I got that down, I added to my repertoire. Then I learned how to raise the roof. It's quite invigorating.

I first played in front of people at my home church. It took me a while to become comfortable playing in front of people, which there weren't very many at that church. Then I got to college. I played for a college ministry group called "Crossfire", which is associated with the U.C.M. That is where I first learned actually how to play. That was my first "band" experience. I quickly learned different ways to play and how to "listen" to the song and play. I owe most of my skills to playing in Crossfire. Fun times.

I will found out something that may totally effect my future tomorrow. Pray for me.

A disco ball fell on that guys head. He bled, I hurled.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

Wired

I really like this picture I took about a month ago. This is becoming one of my favorite things to capture... Highline wires.

I like Milk Duds. The only bad thing about them is that they stick to your teeth. So, your teeth taste like caramel for the rest of the day. Wait.... maybe it isn't so bad...

Well, I'm lazing on a Sunday afternoon. I could do some homework but what is the fun in that? Am I not suppose to be "resting" today? It's God's day!

Jonathan walked into the UCM as I was napping. I woke up to the realization that he was shooting a type of Nerf gun or something at my face. Those things pack a punch. Don't be deceived, it will poke your eyes out. That's why my friends call me whiskers.

Football season is quickly approaching. Is there any better time of the year when football is in full force and basketball is starting? I think not.

Red, red wine. You are not blue.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

6 degrees of...

Somebody must have been praying for me...

I had another job interview yesterday. Some of you know where. I shall not say just yet. I feel very confident that I will get the job. There is one more interview to go. They will make their decision on Tuesday, so, I will know by then. I want to say more, but there should be much for me to say on here by the time Tuesday rolls around (hopefully).

You know how hot it is out there? It's so hot you could fry Kevin Bacon on the sidewalk.

I'm the son of rage and love.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

Trust

Chances are that my employment at this place are not going to happen. More experienced and "qualified" people are ahead of me. But that is okay. I am trusting that God has bigger things for me. A part of me is begining to be worried about if I will find the right job any time soon. A part of me doesn't know what I want. Maybe in a couple of days that path will become clearer. Pray for me.

Murphy's #$&($@$&% Law

It was the best of days.... It was the worst of days... like today.

First I'll give you a brief overview of my day using pictures:

I'll explain....
First, I had to get up very early... which, to me, is anything before 11:59 a.m. I have class this week at 8:20 in the a.m. It's not so bad. It gave me an excuse to have breakfast when places ACTUALLY SERVE breakfast.

Then, I get on my computer and realize it isn't working properly. It had a virus. It was one of those where pop-up ads show up ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME. And there is nothing you can do about it.

This was the time that I needed my computer the most. You see, I am making professional looking resume's for possible employment in the near future. Near future=in the next few days or weeks. There is an opening here in town for a job that I'm interested in so I had to jump to it to get my application in. That was my plan today. Didn't happen. I spent all day getting this stupid Adware.crap off of my computer. I called some friends who helped. It worked... so far. I still have a few problems left. But that's okay.

After I resolved that issue I had to go fight some crime. A few roundhouse kicks to the face can solve any a-hole who refuses to obey the law of the land.

I also tried a new hair style. What do you think?

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

French Toast or How to get a pink flag

It was a good day so far. The French lost in the World Cup finals. Usually, I could not care less about soccer, but a lot of my friends were interested in it, so I took it upon myself to give it a glance. Basically, I didn't want the French to win in anything, that's why I chose to go for Italy.

I went to the BSU to watch it because several of my friends were there and they were showing it on the wall via a projector. A few, uh,... foreign born males were in attendance at the BSU. I'm trying to be politically correct here. Anyway, they were very much into it. They yelled at the wall. In other words, they were very excited about soccer. I am not. And it made me wonder. This must be what people see in me when I am watching college football. Of course, there was a little less swearing going on at the BSU (none, for those keeping score). I yell, rant, scream, pee on things,... okay, maybe not that last one. But I get very much into it. Either way, it was fun watching those guys becoming excited about an average, at best, sport.

In other words, soccer is a gay sport:

That deserves a Pink Flag.

My beard is in the itching stage. I really want to shave it but I want to see what becomes of my face. It's weird, I have three colors of hair in my beard; red, blonde, and black. I'm like a freakin' mutt. Before too long, I will have no more face-fro.

Jeepers creepers. Where'd you get those retinas?

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

The 'c' word

150 minutes..... but it was worth it. Pirates of the Caribbean dos was lengthy but it was entertaining. Yet, I hate to say that it doesn't match the first movie. But that doesn't mean this one wasn't good. It would be hard for the movie to be just as good or better than the first. There was some unexpected turns from what I was expecting, so I was kind of on my toes throughout the movie. I don't want to ruin the movie for those who haven't seen it, so, I won't go into details on the plot of the movie. Moving on...

Next week I get to tour some of Oklahoma's finest sports arenas. No, this isn't something I planned... no... It was because I have to go. Not that I'm complaining. The reason I have to go is because of one of my classes is going on a field trip. I haven't been on a field trip since high school. The whole thing will be worth it if we stop at a Wendy's and get a Frosty. You know, I don't want to be an overweight person, but if I had unlimited Frosty's at my disposal, then I would gladly take man boobs. Bring on the lard!

Well, it's good to see my good friend Ed blogging again thanks to his newly acquired internet. Congrats,... welcome to the real world of geekdom. I bet in the last 24 hours you either a: ate from a tub of ice cream, b: watched Cheaters, c: used profanity, or d: a combination of it all. I'm pretty sure choice 'c' was a safe bet.

Today I am looking rather "mountain man'ish". I don't know what I want to do with my head. Meaning that I am contemplating a change of appearance. What does that mean? Well, you'll see soon enough... or not.

Don't drive angry, you beaver.

Until next time, vaya con Dios.

A 4-way in the house of broken love or how to dodge traffic worrying about your nuts

My July 4th activities to most don't appear on the exciting end of the spectrum, however, I will tell you about my Independence Day festivities.

Every year, at my casa, there is a Happy Birthday party for the U.S of A. No, we don't have a cake, because how is the U.S. gonna blow out 230 candles?

We usually have family, friends, and neighbors who attend the hoopla event of the year... at least at my house. We have smoked ribs, smoked sausage, smoked pork, smoked smoke, and smoked people... with a nice bottle of Chianti. We had it all. And to top it all off, we had the annual shooting of the spuds. We present to the crowd the *one and only* potato gun de la Independence. The goal, as every year, is to make it to the pond. We shot a few off before we had to go take shelter under the porch because of some sort of falling drops of liquid. We've never seen such a thing but others in attendance insisted that it was something called "rain". Whatever...

It was fun despite the fact that my neck was permanently set in one spot. I couldn't look right, up, down, or all the way left. I must have looked like Frankenstein the whole day. However, it is much better now, but it is far from being normal. I've never had something hurt this much in my neck. The weird thing was that I didn't sleep on it wrong or anything that I am aware of. It just progressed throughout the day (July 3). Who knows?.....

Well, considering my "condition", I decided to stay home instead of "going out" painting the town. I couldn't very well be comfortable so the best way for me to get through the day is to stay home and watch a movie courtesy of NetFlix.com, or take morphine, but I was out of it anyway. I was watching the movie until about 9:30 p.m. when I received a phone call from a friend who was broke down on the side of the highway with a flat tire. Upon his request, I drove to his location with the aim to help him get on his way.

Everything was going great until it became time to actually do some work. We had an opposite-of-heaven of a time trying to get the lug nuts off of the wheel. We were basically standing of the wratchet and jumping on it to get the nuts to come off. Finally we got them all off ..... except for the last one. It was stripped... and no, it didn't take its clothes off..... We tried to do all of this while trying not to get run over by cars going 83 mph right by us. All the cars would do as they drove passed us was honk. Why do people honk as they drive by? Does that make us feel better? "Oh... thank God they honked... I didn't know they cared!"

In summary, we wasn't able to put the spare tire on. The things wouldn't have fit anyway. The spare was designed for a different car, which wasn't the fault of my friend. Whoever owned the car previously put that in there. Who puts a spare in a car for which it doesn't fit?? Anyway, he had to get the thing towed away. Keep in mind I had to help my friend with my neck all to opposite-of-heaven. That made the experience all the more enjoyable. Man, that hurt like a booby....

Until next time, vaya con Dios. And happy birthday dad.

*one and only - meaning the only one present at my house that day.

Pain in the neck

I am in pain, ladies and gents.

You never realize how many muscles you use in everyday, mundane situations until one or many of those muscles hurt. It would seem that I have one of your ordinary, run-of-the-mill neck pains. Usually you get those when you wake up in the morning. But this morning I was just fine. It didn't start hurting until the early afternoon hours and has only gotten worse. I can't turn my head right at all. Even when I turn it left, it still hurts, but I can at least turn it that way. It hurts like a 5-lettered 'b' word. No... not what you think. The word is booby. It hurts like a booby. And, if you don't know, a booby REALLY hurts.

What else have I been up to? Well, I completed a class earlier today, with a hurt neck. The class was really easy. You gotta like a class where the final consists of all the questions from previous tests. Thank God I printed out my previous tests!

Don't you hate it when goats chase you everywhere?

Until next time, vaya con Dios.
